Theresa May’s speech is interrupted by a coughing fit and a prankster!

PRIME Minister Theresa May’s speech at the Conservative Party Conference didn’t go quite as planned.

The PM suffered from a coughing fit, which meant she couldn’t get her words out. At one point, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond got up to give her a throat sweet.

A prankster then interrupted the speech to hand Theresa a fake P45. This is a document that has to be filled out when you leave a job, suggesting some people think the prime minister should resign.

To add to the problems, some of the staging behind her started falling down!

The aftermath of Theresa May’s speech

Following the speech in Manchester, lots of the Conservative MPs have shown support for Theresa and the policies she set out.

Others though have said the PM should step down.

Why was the PM making the speech?

Theresa May was appearing at the conference to talk about her vision for Britain and the policies she’d like to introduce. In this year’s speech she talked about plans to build thousands of new council houses, among other things.
