New guides have been introduced to help protect young people online

News

THE Children’s Commissioner for England has introduced some new guides to help young people understand more about social media accounts.

Young people will be offered leaflets, explaining what your rights are if you sign up for a social media account. This will include sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Currently, a lot of social media sites have very long and complicated guidelines. Children’s commissioner, Anne Longfield, has rewritten these terms and conditions to make them clearer for young people.

The rules don’t have to be implemented by companies, but they are hoping to help you make sense of different sites’ rules and privacy settings.

What are the new guidelines like?

The new guidelines are much shorter, use simpler language and feature bullet points.

They will explain what happens to your personal information and how the sites can use it.
