Cyclist set to finish journey around the world in 80 days

News

IF cyclist Mark Beaumont arrives in Paris today – which it looks like he will – he will have completed his ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ mission, one day ahead of schedule.

Super-cyclist Mark has been cycling more than 240 miles a day for the last 79 days, which means he’s been on his bike for more than 16 hours every day and only sleeping for 5 hours each night.

This isn’t the first time that Mark’s attempted such a challenge; in 2008, he covered the 18,000-mile route in 194 days, setting a new world record.

However, since then, it has been broken by other riders, with the current record set at 123 days.

Nearly there!

To take back his record, Mark has been cycling non-stop, starting in Paris, before going through Europe, Russia, Mongolia and China.

He then cycled across Australia, up through New Zealand and across North America, before his final journey through Portugal, Spain and then finally back to France.

Good luck, Mark! You’re SO close!
