THE island of Bali is on red alert, with experts fearing that a major volcanic eruption might happen anytime soon.

Mount Agung has been spewing plumes of ash and smoke as high as 30,000ft (9,144m) into the sky on the island of Bali, an island in Indonesia and a popular holiday destination.

What’s happening in Bali?

As a result, nearly 100,000 people have had to evacuate the area for their safety. Tens of thousands of tourists are also stranded on the island due to airport closures.

Experts have now raised the alert to level four due to the “possibility and imminent risk of disaster”.

Volcano has been rumbling since September

The volcano awoke for the first time in half a decade in September.
