FRENCH astronaut Thomas Pesquet has become the first person in history to thank all of the world’s teachers, for everything they do, from Space.

Thomas made his shout-out in a video message recorded from inside the International Space Station, 220 miles above Earth.

The video was played at the Global Education and Skills Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Sunday 19 March. The Varkey Foundation’s $1 million Global Teacher Prize is given out every year to the world’s best teacher at this conference.

Thomas took the opportunity to thank every teacher on Earth during his video message. “Every day they beat impossible odds; everyday they reach for the stars. So I’d like to be the first person in history to thank all of the world’s teachers from Space,” he said from the stars.

He then revealed an envelope, threw it up into the air and caught it (check out the video above to see just how cool this looks in zero gravity) and read the name of the world’s best teacher to the world – Maggie MacDonnell, a teacher from Canada. Why not take a moment to thank your teachers this week? After all, they’re officially all shooting stars, now!
